Hybrid-Quantum Approach for Optimal Lockdown

D-Wave quantum computer is used to optimize the lockdown schedule as disease evolution is modeled using a SEIRD model. The already known QUBO formulation for the knapsack problem is used along with a transfer function to link the evolving diseases betweeen cities. An alternating schedule of disease evolution along with city lockdown optimization is then compared between classical probabilistic and quantum annealing methods. Results show that the knapsack formulation is able to substantially reduce morbidity while reducing the economic disruption
